Reception Fetes Franklin Spears in West Texas campaign stop
Franklin Spears, candidate for attorney general, spoke at the Party House in Brownfield and attended a reception hosted by P. R. Cates during a six day West Texas tour covering 30 counties. The event ran with law enforcement and students present as Spears touted independence of the attorney general office and pushed back against crime. A state contest awarded runner-up Jeralynn Felts, with prizes for top entrants and an expense paid trip for the winner.

The Terry County Sheriff s Posse plans the three day national round up of the American Association of Sheriffs Posses and Riding Clubs in Brownfield April 29 May 1 drawing 600 700 people. Registration starts 4 p m April 28 at the Posse Club House with events including polo music parades pony express race and mounted church service. Concessions run by local youth groups and lodging help from the Chamber of Commerce aim to accommodate attendees.

Privitt Wins Oratorical Contest at Brownfield Optimist Club
Richard Privitt son of Mr and Mrs Sam Privitt won first place in the Brownfield Optimist Club Oratorical Contest with Mike Richardson second and Cliff Toliver third. Winners received certificates and trophies as judges Max Hamilton Don Turner Rev Ed Crow and alternate Raymond Beck timed and judged the event. Privitt advances to the zone contest in Lubbock April 23 with the district final in Baltimore June 19-23 for a $1000 scholarship winner and two $500 runners up. special guest Laurelle Wheatley praised for helping contestants.

Petition Filed Against Hubbard Contempt of Injunction Sought
The County Attorney for Texas filed a petition in county court seeking to hold L. H. Hubbard in contempt of a prior temporary injunction. The filing asks the injunction to be made permanent and final, that all buildings on the premises be closed and padlocked for a year or until Hubbard and assigns post bond not to exceed 25 000. The petition also seeks punishment for the alleged violation.

Condra Services Scheduled Today
Funeral services for Frank B. Condra 85 are set for 2 p.m. today at Brownfield Memorial Chapel with Tom Wallace from Crescent Hill Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be Terry County Memorial Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home. Condra died at 5:05 p.m. Friday after a long illness. He was born July 24, 1881 in Bell County and moved to Terry County in 1960 to farm Gomez Community until retirement in 1965. He leaves four sons, two sisters, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Survivors include F B Buck Condra of Rosville Milford Cleburne Billy Mack Abilene and Bobby W Andrews.
