Light turnout of 135 ballots produced a new mayor and two incumbent councilmen for a two year term. C. E. Ross won unopposed with 132 votes and one write in for Keith Gore. L. J. Richardson and W. K. Lindsey were re elected unopposed with 129 and 125 votes. Other councilmen with terms not expiring are Kenneth Purtell Jack Hamilton and Sam Teague. Highway Mishap Near Brownfield Leaves One Fractured
Lonnie Smith 30 of Orton suffered a compound fracture of the left ankle and foot Monday night after a one vehicle crash 7.7 miles north of Brownfield on US 385. Dan Raymond Williams 30 of Springlake, driving a 1964 Thunderbird, had a chin abrasion and faced DWI charges, free on a $1,000 bond. Sgt A E Roberts of Texas Highway Patrol investigated the crash, which occurred as the car ran off the road, hit a culvert, and ended in a plowed field.

Thefts Investigated By Brownfield Police
Brownfield police blotter reports multiple thefts over recent days. A large cast iron pot used as a planter was taken from 325 8 2nd Street. four teens, ages 13 to 16, were later released to parents after recovering the pot and tying the theft to two months of other incidents. Additional thefts involve eight cases of soft drink bottles from Garcia Barbecue Pit, a tool box with sockets, a dutant hose and a wool sweater from a pickup, and a bicycle. A vandalism incident damaged a school bus, and Alfredo Contrados Garcia faces drunk and aggravated assault charges after an early Sunday knife attack. A service station pump was knocked over on Lubbock Road. a driver was charged with minor consuming and a traffic ticket issued for leaving information. Further details appear on Page 4.

Miner Wells Records First Traffic Fatality of 1964
John Arthur Clark 22 of Brownfield killed when struck by a southbound car on WS Highway 82 near Meador. Another vehicle struck his legs as he crossed after stepping from a parked car. Justice of the Peace L A Rhyne declared him dead at the scene. Clark, a Mineral Wells High School graduate, worked at Goodpasture Manufacturing and leaves a wife, a daughter, and his Palo Pinto parents. Funeral services were held in Miners Wells this week with Brownfield and Baum Carlock Funeral Homes handling arrangements.
