Lions Easter Egg Hunt Set for Coleman Park

Ottis Larner announces the Lions Egg Hunt for children up to 12 at Coleman Park this Saturday at 3 p.m. The event will divide the area into two age groups, six with parents, and 6 to 12, with a note on supervision.

City And School Elections Turnouts Extremely Light

Unopposed candidates swept city and school seats in two of the state’s smallest election turnouts. I M Bailey, Bill Carter, and Cecil O Neal re-elected trustees with 60 votes. Sam Murphy, Virgil Travis returned to the city council with 54 votes, and James Harley Dallas won a first term. Meadow and Wellman districts reported low totals amid partial opposition and write ins.

Brownfield Students Dominate Spring Interscholastic Meet

Brownfield led the county spring Interscholastic League with 41 points, capturing the literary division and multiple events. Union and Meadow battled for runner up as Meadow claimed volleyball titles and Brownfield swept several playground and literary awards.

License Plate Sale Ends With Big Rush

The rush to buy license plates ended at midnight Thursday with 694 issued on the final day and total sales about 500 above last year. Tax collector Don Cates reported 7,122 licenses issued overall, including 4,202 passenger car tags and 2,565 commercial and farm licenses, plus 800 truck tags and other vehicle categories. More than 200 plates were issued Friday and Saturday to owners who missed the deadline.

District Convention For Firemen In Brownfield

Firemen from twenty towns receive invitations to the semi annual district convention in Brownfield on April 23. Activities include a morning business meeting at City Hall a fire race on East Tate and an evening entertainment at the Brownfield Country Club.

Brownfield Board Votes to Hire Special Education Teacher

The Brownfield school board approved hiring a teacher for exceptional children for 1955 56 and will survey handicapped student needs with the South Plains Health Unit. Final school day is May 24 with report cards. commencement May 23 and Baccalaureate May 22, Easter vacation extends two days.

ASC Sets April 20 Deadline for Cotton Premeasurement Rules

The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee sets April 20 as the final date to request premeasurement of cotton. Office manager Leoe Miller details deductions for field boundary strips and continuous areas, with width and acre thresholds, and notes half row measurements for deductions. Cottonseed support is $46 per ton for the 1955 crop, with loan and purchase prices around $46 and $42 per ton respectively, and further program provisions to be announced.

Funeral for W C Mathis in San Antonio

Funeral services were held in San Antonio Monday for W C Bill Mathis 76 an early day cowboy of the Lubbock territory who was killed in an automobile accident Friday. He came to the South Plains in 1907 from Quanah and rancher in the Gomez country west of He is survived by his widow a son a daughter and a niece Mrs Arthur Lay of Lubbock

Presbyterians Announce $200000 Building Plans for Church Expansion

First Presbyterian Church plans a $200 000 expansion to start in early summer adding a new Sanctuary seating 525 with balcony for 90 and converting the existing sanctuary to a Fellowship hall The new design includes a taller tower with spire and an interior cross feature while enlarging the kitchen and creating an audio visual center.
