Waller County rice growers expanded to about 2500 acres with a big yield forecast. Last year state yield 51 bushels per acre, implying around 125000 bushels this season. About five trucks of local labor go to fields daily earning near 3.50 per day. The report notes labor shortages in cotton and cites 1936 statistics.

F A Freiteg age 87 longtime Sunnyside resident died at home Saturday. Survived by wife 13 living children 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral held Sunday at 3:30 p m from the home with interment in Sunnyside Cemetery under Muskegun Funeral Home direction. Large crowd attended. Freiteg is father of townsman Jack Freiteg.

Austin reports a 12.77 mile section from 2 miles east of Columbus to the San Bernard river will be let September 17. The route bypasses Columbus and runs eastward via Sealy and Katy, shortening the Houston to San Antonio trip by about 18 miles.
