Mrs A K Brookshire received the Presidential Citation of Merit and the Purple Heart on behalf of Sgt Wilbert Trudell posthumously. He was killed in action in France on July 16 1944 after less than a year in service and about seven months overseas, landing in the June invasion.
Mass will be celebrated at the local chapel Sunday at 10:30. The public is invited to attend.
A historic two story lodge hall changes hands as Diemer purchases the building on a Monday from owner 2D Agoriae. The deal secures the property for future use by the Diemer group in Upton.
Mr and Mrs J H Clayton at Johnsoe entertained Monday evening with a chicken gumbo supper for guests including Judd Woodell H A Reaves La Rose Gage Lawrence Cooper Bobie Chennault and A B Anderson After the meal Mrs Clayton played piano selections while the guests sang along though they did not join in Sweet Adeline Mrs Ida Neelley of Sealy visited Friday and Saturday in the home of her brother H Seidel.

Calvin Peek’s house caught fire Friday night but neighbors stopped the blaze. C O Chandlers move into a new home Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Pollard and family relocate to a Normangee school residence. Doris Franz and Artis Freeman return from Mary Hardin Baylor for the weekend. Patricia and Joyce Franz visit Santa at Sears Roebuck Saturday. Bazillian class meets at the recreation hall Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Franz and Mrs Caldwell lead the social hour. Mrs E W Brand visits daughter Mrs Elmer Peek last week. Several locals visit Mrs Olen Thompson and others Sunday. Bond sales noted as doing nicely. Deer hunters Esten Denny Billy Denny Morgan Johnny Phillips go near Eagle Lake for three days. D G Barkley returns to Johneue after vacation. Jimmie Wiley visits San Antonio with his mother. Mae Monigold and friends from Houston have Thanksgiving at Oscar Kemp’s Sunday. Continued on page six.
