The people of Brookshire cooperate with Red Cross workers and contribute $531.72 toward the drive as Mrs. B. Ray Woods, local chairman, reports. She has not set a closing date, as several supporters promised future checks.
Notice outlines rules for placing names on the official ballot for the Brookshire Independent School District election on April 8 1948 to elect three trustees. Names listed include J D Woods Damon Matlock Willie Mikeska Milton Schmidt George Rheman Jr Andrew Highrabedian Henry Holz. Brookshire Lions heard an entertaining program Tuesday night with host Jack Dalton and guests including Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Logan and Miss Peggy Dalton of Venezuela. Wayne McCain performed magic tricks while Peggy Dalton sang. Fifty three members attended with two new members. The P T A provided dinner and the group enjoyed old fashioned singing after the program.
Mrs Clara Boughton of Simonton was badly burned when her clothes caught fire near a stove and taken to Sealy hospital. Mr J M Nelson of Cedar Bayou was severely burned when a heater exploded as he lit it and taken to Goose Creek hospital. The fire destroyed the home and about half the furniture. Nelson is the father of George and Clyde Nelson of Katy.
Retired minister Reverend R W McCann delivered two sermons at the Baptist church Sunday and will preach again Sunday morning. Parishioners are invited to hear him as he is described as one of God's chosen ministers and as a chance to draw nearer to God through his services.
Miss Frances Hammerling shopped in Houston Tuesday. Mr and Mrs E E Rapsilver attended funeral services for Monroe Severin at Sealy Tuesday afternoon. Lary Wilson confined with flu. Granddaughter birth announced for Mrs Richard Bert on in Houston Sunday. Spring arrives March 20. Buell Finch and Dotty Brast wed March 16. Several visits and social calls noted across Houston Greens Bayou La Marque and Port Lavaca with family gatherings and travel.
Mrs. Odis Durbin and family hosted a weekend visit from Houston while Mrs. Lee Harris of Liberal Kansas stayed with the Bartletts. Local social rounds included a Stanley House Party, a W D Blanton family reunion, and visits among Durbin, Whitacre, Clayton, and Euton households with similar social calls across town.
Pattison residents report business visits and family gatherings in Hempstead and Katy. The new school building progresses rapidly ahead of the upcoming year. Community members attend funerals and discuss recent weather, with several locals changing jobs or visiting relatives.
The B and P W Club announces a town wide Clean Up week from April 4 to 11 to beautify Brookshire. County trucks will haul tin cans and trash. residents should place items in containers for collection. The MKT railroad will keep its right of way clean. The club plans twice monthly collections and notes a March 10 meeting at Mrs Anna Martin's home.
Mr. George Pattison moved his home to a new location last week. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Pattison are adding on to their home at the new location. Mrs. L. R. Jones and daughter visited Mr. and Mrs. Austin Greer of the Humble plant. Mrs. James Pattison spent Sunday evening with Mrs. J. L. Phillips. Claude Clett is on the sick list this week. Dinner guests included Mrs. H. A. Harvey Mrs. J. D. Harvey and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Schrivanek with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sturm. David Alsbrook attended the funeral of his cousin Barney Alsbrook in Goose Creek. body reinterred from overseas.
Mr and Mrs Geo Longenbaugh and relatives visited the L5 Ranch in Leakey last week. The group included Mr and Mrs Holden Longenbaugh Mrs Sammie Beckendorff and child and Alta Lee Beckendorff.
