Public School Week in Texas invites parents and citizens to visit Katy schools March 7 through 11. Open house will include class tours, exhibits, lunches in the cafeteria, and special programs on March 10 7 30 pm featuring musical numbers and an address on promoting the general welfare.
Funeral services were held at Pattison Methodist Church for Creer B. Halbison aged 63. Burial followed in Pattison cemetery with Schmidt Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include wife Dessie Morgan Halbison, son Creer Omerson, daughter Mrs Woodrow Mikeska, four grandchildren and several relatives. Halbison was a World War I veteran and longtime Pattison resident.
The Brookshire Assembly of God Church sponsors a pastry sale at Shearer's Store on Saturday beginning at 10 00 am. Residents are urged to patronize the event.
Mrs. Zelda Adams of Katy died at her home on Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were held from Waller Funeral Home chapel on Friday with burial in Pattison cemetery. Survivors include her daughter Ruby Mitchem and several sons, sisters, brothers, grandchildren, and other relatives. Attending from Brookshire were two brothers in law and their wives.
Mrs W K Russell is in Memorial Hospital Houston in room 475 and wishes for her quick recovery. Mrs Taley teaches the 6th grade as substitute. Charlie Wilpitz, seriously ill in Sealy Hospital, is improved and moved to his daughter Mrs Butch Paben’s home in Waller. A L Short is in Memorial Hospital room 388 for treatment after a recent bout.
Community drives for Brookshire Fire Station and Municipal building race toward a $7500 goal led by Max Wander. A Fireman’s barbecue on April 12 and Bricks for $1.00 help raise funds along with contributions from the Brookshire B P W Lions Club and Royal Neighbors. The new municipal building near the water works will house two fire trucks and offices with recreation rooms and restrooms designed by Matt Howard Jr Associates.
Plans for the Katy Fat Stock Show and Rodeo are under way with committee leaders named. L. D. Robinson serves as Chapter Advisor, Warren Peek as General Superintendent, and Richard Beckendroff as assistant paper intendent. Numerous subcommittees cover sales, breeding cattle, livestock, calf and lamb shows, poultry, gate, parade, floats, and reception activities.
The Ladies Aid of Memorial Lutheran Church offers their cook book Favorite Recipes for sale. Containing hundreds of recipes donated by local neighbors, the books are priced at $2.50 and available to try a neighbor’s favorite dish.
The Mary Wilkinson Club of the Future Teachers of America will receive its charter during a March 10 assembly at 10 16 am in the Katy High School Auditorium. Mrs Kate Bell of the Texas State Teachers Association will speak. James E B Taylor will present the charter. Kay Miller leads the charter members and Betty S[tingky] is noted. Public School Week in Texas invites the public.
Elections set for Tuesday April 5 to choose a Mayor and two commissioners in Brookshire and Katy. City secretaries announce filing until 6 p.m. Saturday March 6. Votes cast at Brookshire Elementary School and Katy Fire Dept building.
The Katy Methodist W S C will hold a cake sale at Dube s Store on March 5 starting at near 9:30 a.m. Special orders contact Mable LeChaux Caroarborough or Dol Mae Peck.
The teenager's room at Toots Bakery will be officially named Saturday afternoon from 2 to 3 o'clock. Teens are invited for refreshments and to submit a naming entry for a chance to win a metal phonograph record case. Mrs Wilson notes many strong suggestions.
