The Brookshire B P W Club proclaims Buy A Brick Week from March 1 to 8 to raise funds for the Brookshire Fire Station. Residents are urged to participate by donating dollars and wearing an I bought a Brick badge. Ma Huffman gave the first dollar.
At noon Tuesday Rhe man Motor Co. reported 35 of the new 1955 license plates sold. To register a vehicle you need a title and 1954 registration papers. Brookshire plate series start NP6450 for cars and 2Y-5800 for trucks. April 1 is the deadline. early purchase avoids rush. Miller Motor Co. sells plates in Katy.
Mrs. Dorothy Bing sustained minor bruises when a southbound car crossed the road on a Katy highway bridge injuring her 1952 Lincoln. Leonard H. Graham of San Antonio faced three charges DWI operating without license and driving on the wrong side. James F. OConnell owner of the car faced two charges drunk in car and permitting an unauthorized person to operate. Both jailed in Ft. Bend County and convicted on all charges Monday. Patrolman Arrington noted DWI filings on four white men over the weekend.
Moore and Son Concrete Contractor open in Katy on First Street west of Johnson Welding Co. They specialize in transit mix concrete in large or small amounts. Joe Moore and Billy Moore, known in Katy for past work, plan to base operations there as their new business.
Van Scroggins will give away 1000 baby chicks at the Katy Feed Store on Saturday. Each customer receives 10 chicks and must bring a box. The chicks are roosters for eating and are government approved as broiler and layer types.
Marian Bryom crowned senior queen of Brenham Maifest 65th annual event to be held May 13 and 14. King named as William Hinze son of Mr and Mrs William Hinze pre medical student at Texas Lutheran College Seguin. Carol Lynn Voelkel daughter of Travis Voelkel junior queen to reign over Court of Hearts May 13 with King Bryan Greenwade 12 son of B P Greenwade.
Bert Gassner and Lloyd Sloan attended the Sam Houston Water and Sewage Assn meet ing and dinner in Pasadena last Thursday evening as guests of the city. They received instruction on stream and air pollution.
A capacity crowd attended the Shrine Crippled Children’s program last Saturday night despite cold weather. A new record of 300 at the door boosted hopes, aided by advertising from local businesses. performances included Hallie Pritchard School of Dancing, Beverly Butaud School of Dancing, Hallie Pritchard and local talents, with Bill Moore’s daughter and Huntsville’s Mellotones joining the show for the fundraiser benefiting Crippled Children Hospital.
The City of Brookshire will elect a mayor and two commissioners at Brookshire Elementary School on April Sth per an order by Mayor W F Donald in The Times. Candidates must file with the city secretary 30 days before the election, no later than March 5.
Brookshire Pack 370 of the Cub Scouts hosts a birthday banquet in the Brookshire School cafeteria Friday evening. Dinner begins at 6 30 with parents invited to attend and enjoy entertainment following the meal.
Rotarians and Rotary Anns celebrate the Golden Anniversary with a dinner at 7 30 pm in the Katy Gas Cycling Plant Assembly Hall. Guest speaker Beau Beaumier of Lufkin, past district governor, leads a program featuring local talent and remarks by Katy Rotary President Albert Thompson.
A Saturday benefit game at Katy High School Gym features Tri County Charmers and Pattison Town team with F F A boys in between. Proceeds go to Cpl. Douglas Wiechman, a Pattison native hospitalized, as VFW and Lions raise funds for a deep freeze and a cash gift. Wiechman’s wife attends as guest.
Brookshire TX notes say Douglas Wiechmann, hospitalized 17 months after Korean War POW service 27 months, shows improvement and may transfer to another ward. His wife works as a Houston Bell Telephone operator and the community plans a benefit ball game to aid rehabilitation efforts.
A representative from Wyatt Hedrick's Engineers will attend Katy city council to discuss a drainage elevation map at 1 30 p m Thursday March 3 in the fire station assembly room. May or Arthur Miller indicated Hedricks will present an estimated cost for the map to guide future permanent improvements like curb and gutter and street grading.
South Texas Lumber Co will complete a purchase this week of the highway frontage next to Swisher and Ruege in Katy. The sellers are H. P. Swisher and A. H. Ruege. Milton P. Ivey served as the real estate agent in charge.
Oscar Kemp returned home this week following bone surgery at Memorial Hospital. Doctors report hopeful recovery and may fit him with a walking cast on his leg until full healing occurs.
Melvin Scott underwent emergency surgery after falling from a top bunk in Hermann Hassee. He woke to see Ronnie covered, left bed, and fell striking his nose and head lacerations. Dr. Bingle advised a prose surgeon as Scott recovers at home.
Waller County court house records are announced to be published again as a public service after several requests. The notice notes the resumption comes at considerable expense to the publication.
