The six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Bert Haskett was badly burned when a pot of hot coffee overturned on her back while she rested on a bench. Her brother accidentally knocked the pot over. She endured intense pain but is now convalescing. Her father recently returned from a hospital in Jogee after several days of treatment.
Funeral services were held at Pattison Saturday at 10 a m for Vergon Pattison 16 and Roland 8 who were killed by lightning Thursday. Rev W Kolt conducted the services with a large gathering of relatives and friends. Both bodies were laid to rest in the Muske cemetery. A H Muske, undertaker, directed the plans.
Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for support after a bereavement. J M Pattison and Roland Gray Sr acknowledge helpers. D F Chevrolet Co reports two new car sales to Ed Wirpitz and Tom Gassner and several new models on display with positive remarks. Local agency plans more deliveries soon.
Texas farmers may receive 6 to 12 per acre cash this summer plus an option on government cotton under the Farm Relief Act. The plan offers two payment paths for retiring acres, with scale based on lint yield, and aims to retire up to 10 million acres nationwide.
A Brookshire meeting of Waller County cotton growers discussed the government acreage reduction program. County agent J W Bush explained plans to about one hundred farmers along the Brazos bottom and most attendees favored destroying part of the crop for remuneration.
County Agent J. Bush reports the County 4-H Club encampment for boys and girls scheduled July 30 is indefinitely postponed. It will be rescheduled before summer's end, likely at Anglerton or Wheeler Lake near Hempstead, both ideal sites.
A local drive aims to collect crop signing commitments with a service garage office for applications. Meetings were held in Pattison Waller Union Macedonia Fields Store Howth Sunnyside and Hempstead with urged signups by Friday night and possibly Saturday. The central committee includes H A Dobbs W M Lipacomb and J T Ramsey.
