Barbecue Tickets Discounted Before Fourth of July Event

Advance-sale barbecue tickets offered at 1.50 for adults with price rising to 1.75 on July 4. Boy Scouts will sell at Katy area stores on June 2 and 28, with proceeds aiding summer camp. Miss Katy Independence Day contest deadline for Chamber members is next week. Betty Nelson expects 12 entrants. Activities include movie at VFW Center, 42 tournament, Little League games, outdoor stage pageant at 7:30 p.m., fireworks at 9:30, and a youth center dance with a Houston band.

Katy High Band Twirlers Chosen for 1969 70

Dot Jordens will be drum major and twirlers are Cynthia Simpson Torxy Nelson and Debbie Cavender. Candidates must be in Katy High School bands for a year pass the music barrier by playing sixteen scales and maintain a qualifying grade point average. Brookshire Youth Program Opens at City Hall

Alderman R T Cray led a Saturday afternoon session at City Hall for forty-two children seven parents two patrolmen and two police officers. The program included tours bike safety films quizzes and gifts with praise for the clean no litter finish and orderly conduct.

Fathers were honored on the field with 11:00 am and 7:00 pm events. The Red Sox led in attendance with free burgers, as dads and sons exchanged pins. Troy McGuire named Father of the Year for work on the field and shack, now in his second year as manager.

Katy Schools report Addicks Elementary should be ready for occupancy by September 1 after weather and roofing delays. Work on Katy Junior and Senior High adds will not be usable in September, with summer completion planned for modifications. The board named Katy National Bank as depository, renewed media services, purchased furniture, and formed a vocational training committee to report in July.

El Campo Youth Dies in Oil Field Accident

Eugene Nash 18 of El Campo died at Methodist Hospital Houston after an oil field accident west of Katy in Waller County. Two others Alton Cary 24 and George O’Brian 19, both from Houston, were treated and released. All were employed by T and L Drilling Co at Humble Oil Refining Co development well.

Brookshire Firemen Target 10900 for New Truck and Gear

Brookshire volunteers aim to raise 10900 to buy a second fire truck and equipment. Chief Bob Henry said the project, approved and underwritten by the City Council, follows years of need and ongoing fundraising. Donation mailings to local telephone owners boosted the build-up fund.

David Southard Jr Receives Texas A&M Degree and Loan Officer Post

David Southard Jr, a 1969 Texas A&M Agricultural Economics graduate, has been named loan officer for Arlington Savings Association in Arlington, Texas. The appointment, announced by Charles F. Arnold, president, notes Southard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Southard of Hockley and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Iva L. Southard of Katy. He will reside in Arlington and work at the association’s Home Office.

Katy Methodists Plan Supper and Fellowship Evening

Max Wander Honored for 50 Years in Masonry

On Saturday night June 14 1969 Max Wander received a 50 year certificate at Brookshire Masonic Lodge 1066. About 125 Masons and families attended as District Deputy Grand Master Alex Wier presented the award and Texas Grand Chaplain HARRISS spoke on youth development. Wander is a past master of Brookshire Lodge and member of Brookshire Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Arabian Temple.
