Katy Recreation Program Outlined For Summer
Katy plans a flexible summer recreation schedule from June 7 to June 18 with no morning activities and staff at Vacation Bible Schools. Starting June 21 morning hours feature softball tumbling boxing archery and more while swimming and skating fill afternoons and evenings. Nightly themes include softball rodeos and dance events with church activities Wednesdays and monthly entertainment to fund the program.

Funeral Services Held for Gus Hammerling in Pattison
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Pattison Methodist Church for Gus Adolph Hammerling 72 a Pattison resident for 67 years. He died Monday at Sealy Hospital after a heart attack. Survivors include his wife four sons two grandsons and two great grandchildren. He served as Pattison election clerk for 40 years.

Mrs Hettie Ogg Tompkins age 57 of Hempstead died at 4 am Sunday at home. Survived by husband G M Tompkins and two sisters Miss Jim mie Rene Ogg and Mrs Willie Tompkins, both of Hempstead. Services Monday in Hempstead with Rev Jesse Roberson. Burial in Fields Store Cemetery. Mrs Tompkins taught at Monaville school about 20 years.

LaVerne Avera won a national art certificate for an oil painting titled Max Wander's on Saturday Afternoon. The Scholastic Magazine contest drew entries from all states and Hawaii, with the winning piece depicting Negro life on a street corner near Max Wander's store and now displayed in the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh.
