Little League Queens Crowned Friday at Katy Fields

The Katy Little League will crown three Queens for the Minor Major and Senior Leagues this Friday June 2. Miss Totsy Nelson returns to crown LG7 queens for Minor and Major at 7 30 pm at Katy II Tark. Senior queen crowned by winning team manager at 7 0 pm at Bovil back Junior High. All teams in uniform. voting deadline six o’clock for favorite team’s queen.

Griffin and Goerner Selected for Texas Nuclear Science Symposium

Kathy Griffin of Brookshire and Dennis C. Goerner of Katy High School will attend the Seventh Texas Nuclear Science Symposium in Austin June 11 to 14 under Houston Lighting & Power. They will join teachers W R Legiett and Boren for a four day program on nuclear energy research and fusion experiments at the University of Texas.

Vacation Bible School at Brookshire Baptist Church begins with a 9 30 am parade this Saturday June 3 and runs through June 14. Classes start daily at 11 00 am with instruction for all children invited.

New Health Clinic Schedule At Prairie View

Mrs. Seth Grace, school nurse for the Royal Independent School District, received a new Prairie View Health Clinic Schedule from Public Health Nurse Mrs. Harder. The clinic, free to all Waller County residents, offers free immunization shots. The Well Child Clinic runs 8:00 am to 12 noon on Tuesday and Thursday of the 2nd and 4th weeks each month. The Maternity Clinic meets Thursdays during the 1st and 3rd weeks from 12 noon to 4 pm.

Green Meadows Invitational Golf Tourney Set for June

Ward Stanberry reports plans and registration for the Green Meadows Invitational Golf Tournament are progressing. The event, limited to 120 entries, offers about $200 in prizes and a $7.50 entry including greens fees. Time is growing short for registrations.

City of Katy Awards Sewer Line Contract to Houston Firm

At a special Katy City Commission meeting a water and sewer contract was awarded to Joe Collins Construction Company of Houston for 6576 dollars. The three phase project covers water line extensions on Ricelanu Terrace and Roberts Street Ave B and a sewer line to Katy Community Church. Work begins immediately. Residents south of Highway Blvd have applied for sewer service. Mayor and aldermen praised the strong response. A housing program representative spoke of urban development aims, and parents were urged to keep children away from a fogging machine used for mosquito control due to hazard from drivers not seeing them.

Funeral services were held at 3 00 pm Thursday May 25 1967 at the First Baptist Church of Katy for Grace Wilkinson a lifelong Katy resident born September 15 1872 near Livingstone Iowa She died May 23 at 11 45 pm at age 94 years 7 months 8 days Survivors include one sister two brothers and many nieces and nephews Pallbearers were Bill Dube Bill Ferrell Cecil Goynes David Southard Floyd Beckendorff and Herman Meyer Interment was in Magnolid Cemetery Grace never married and spent much of her life helping her mother She called herself The Times Reporter and was a familiar figure in Katy

Longhorn Town Set for June 10 Grand Opening

Mr and Mrs Travis Marks of Longhorn Town and Mrs John Smolik owner of Barker Store plan a grand opening at Burke on Saturday June 10. Roy Wiesner In Critical Condition After Accident

Lt. Roy Wiesner was reported in critical condition after an auto accident this past Sunday. His wife Marsha, treated for cuts and bruises, said the baby was unhurt and Roy was later moved by helicopter to a larger hospital in Wurzburg Germany. Fred Wiesner and Gordon Fussell prepared to fly to Germany Wednesday as prayers were sought.

Lake Jackson Woman Wins Seat in House

Sue Hairgrove, 44, of Lake Jackson, Texas, claimed a state representative seat in District 20-F after winning a special election to fill her late husband Jim Hairgrove’s term. She led with about 61 percent of the vote, 8001 to 1831, with 42 of 50 boxes reported. opponents included W Kenneth Williams 914 and John Kateras 254.

Memorial Day Flag Ceremony Held in Katy

Memorial Day was observed at Katy with a sunrise flag raising ceremony on Tuesday. Participants included Boy Scouts Pat Diforio Bobby Williams Ricky Hicks Gary Hicks Scoutmaster Jim Diforio VFW Post Commander Dan Ross and members Joe K Moore John Cardiff VFW Auxiliary President Kathleen Thompson Mrs Mildred Freeman Mrs Zella Morrison Mrs Dan Ross Mrs Joe Moore and City Alderman Mert Watts. Watts placed a wreath of Buddy Poppies at the flagpole in memory of those who died serving the country. The flag flew half mast until noon and taps were blown at sunset. Remember to fly your flag on June 14 Flag Day.
