Health and Safety program at Brookshire School

The Houston Lighting and Power Co presents a Health and Safety program at Brookshire School on Tuesday night January 24 at 7 30. George McKinney of the Agriculture Department will lead the program. The event is sponsored by the Brookshire Business and Professional Women's Club and all are urged to attend.

Farm students plan to attend Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo

Young fans from Barker and Katy join 1950 Houston Fat Stock Show events February 1 to 12. Fifty five FFA members and 22 veteran agriculture students from Barker attend shows and rodeo performances, with schools coordinating tickets for February 4 and 11. Approximately 10 000 FFA and FFA members from Texas expected for the FFA and FFA Day at Sam Houston Coliseum.

Katy School Band to Perform at Shrine Crippled Children Ball

The Katy School Band will play during a program for the Shrine Crippled Children Ball in Katy on February 18. The event features the famed band contributing to the charity celebration supporting crippled children.

Mrs E Westmoreland 82 Laid To Rest In Weldon Service

Mrs Ella J Westmoreland 82 died at her Katy home. Survivors include sons Ned Erwin Alvin Ralph and others, a daughter Rellie Smith and eight grandchildren. Services conducted at First Baptist Weldon by Rev L Jeffers, burial Weldon Cemetery.

W H Bud Hamilton Dies in Katy After Heart Trouble

W H Bud Hamilton, a Katy resident and carpenter for five years, was found dead in his room late Sunday. Dr J D Motheral cited natural causes. Funeral services were held in Wichita Falls with survivors including a half sister in Wichita Falls and a half brother in Beaumont. He worked with Walter Adcock and had many friends in Katy.

Pattison P. T. A. Meats Meeting January Night

Mrs. Lester Williams of Brookshire spoke on the Bi-county council at the Pattison P. T. A. regular meeting held Thursday night January 12 with twenty five members present. After adjournment refreshments were served.

Neal Ritchey displayed dimples and a first birthday cake with one candle for his mother. Mrs Joe Kasper entered Sealy Hospital for treatment. Roland Sturms recovering from last week’s surgery at Sealy Hospital may come home this weekend. Theo Lammert, Walther League president for the Lone Star District, attends the Presidents Convention in Chicago.

The Katy Warehouse Company enters the mid century under new owners J D Woods and B Ray Woods who purchased from W D Avera. Johnnie Morrison and Lloyd Sloan manage operations as Ray Woods Supply Co opens with plans for display rooms and stock within ten days. The business offers storage for over 10 000 bags of grain and hosts modern rice cleaning equipment.

One of Katy's Oldest Firms Changed Hands in January

The Katy Warehouse Co. changed ownership from Y. D. Avera to J. D. Woods and Ray Woods at the start of the year. Avera had long run the rice cleaning and warehouse operations since 1948, and retired January 1, 1950. The firm, with roots dating to 1904, operated under Avera through multiple expansions and related ventures including Ave ra Grain Co and plumbing and electrical supplies.

Brookshire P. O. announces new hours effective January 21. The post office will close at 12 30 p.m. each Saturday and outbound mail must be in the office by 4 45.

Mr and Mrs A L Short in Weekend Car Crash

Mr A L Short and his wife were injured in a Saturday automobile accident near the Brazos Valley Locker Plant after a truck from Brookshire crowded them off the highway. Their car rolled several times. Mrs Short has a badly dislocated left knee and both sustained cuts and bruises. They are hospitalized in Seay Hospital. daughter Exances Short traveled from Houston to aid them.
