Katy High School Earns Southern Association Accreditation

Katy High School was officially accredited by the Southern Association at its December meeting in Richmond Virginia. Gordon Worley, chair of the Texas Executive Committee, announced the national recognition and praised the faculty and student body. The accreditation rests on faculty quality curriculum instruction student guidance facilities and scholastic standards.

Katy V F W Plans Third Game Dinner for Soldiers

Katy V F W with Andy Anderson arranged a dinner for hospitalized soldiers at Brooke General Army Hospital, San Antonio. About 500 Korean War veterans are to be served. 247 were flown in and 500 expected by January 20. The group appeals for donations of geese, ducks, or deer from hunters and farmers to support the meal.

Postoffice To Stay Open Saturday Afternoon

The Katy Postoffice will remain open all day Saturday to serve more patrons. Citizens are urged to call for their packages as the office will close Sunday and Christmas Day. The Brookshire office will also be open all day Saturday this week as it was last week.

Two Inch Rain Brings Welcome Relief Across Area

A two inch rainfall through Wednesday night brings relief after six months of drought. Cattle suffered from scarce forage and fall gardens fared poorly, while grass fires had been widespread, but the steady rain offers much needed moisture and hope.

Infant Byron McCauley dies at Sealy Hospital

Services held for infant James Ford McCauley son of Bryon and Clara McCauley. Born August 27 1950 the baby died December 18 after about 36 hours ill. Survived by parents one brother seven uncles and one aunt. Funeral at Brookshire Methodist Church with interment in Pattison Cemetery. Milton H Schmidt Funeral Home directed.

Stanley Rheman Arrives in States After Long Evacuation

Mrs. Stanley Rheman reports her husband Lt. Rheman arrived in Oakland from a sequence of evacuations. He described being frostbitten and flown from Hagaru to Hamhung and Yokosuka before returning to the United States. He survived a seven day battle with only 18 of 227 in his unit.
