Katy Band Sets Sights On Regional Music Festival

The Katy high school band will enter the Regional Music Competition Festival in Huntsville, with about 58 bands expected. They depart Katy by bus Saturday noon after performing Friday night in Hallettsville to boost the Katy Hallettsville bi district game. The group will wear new white coveralls funded by the PTA and praise the PTA for the gift.

The Katy Tigers travel to Hallettsville for the bi district clash against the Brahmas Friday at 8 pm. Hallettsville enters with nine wins and one tie, while Katy stands six wins two losses and one tie.

Revival at Brookshire Methodist Church This Week

Rev and Mrs J D Weaver of Sealy lead a revival at Brookshire Methodist Church with services nightly at 7 30 oclock. The meeting closes Sunday evening and attendees are welcomed. The Weavers are noted as talented musicians expressing satisfaction with attendance.

Sub-jail construction planned for Brookshire in Waller County

Waller County has contracted with E. E. Rapsilver and the Southern Prison Company of San Antonio to erect and equip a county sub-jail at Brookshire. The project costs 10 460.85 dollars and the building measures about 31 feet by 21 feet. It will house four cells with two bunks per cell, a three foot corridor on each side, and feature a Justice of the Peace Court Room at the front. Construction uses horizontal cell tile with a brick veneer.

Katy businessman W J Dube celebrates three years since purchasing P C Pitts Grocery in December 1945 and opening the modern air conditioned Dube's Super Market on November 27 last year. Funeral Services for W. D. Mills Held Friday

Funeral services for W. D. Mills were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Brookshire Methodist Church with Rev. G. Z. Sadler officiating. The service featured piano by L. W. Bains and two stanzas of Gods Tomorrow by the choir, followed by burial at Pattison Cemetery. Pallbearers included A. Agopian, Z. K. Beyler, Geo. Rheman Sr., Max Wander, Jack Dalton, W. D. Bains Sr., Wes Buller, and J. C. Day. Numerous relatives and friends from Houston Baytown Hempstead Fulshear and nearby communities attended.

Young Men's Fancy Turns to Basketball at Katy

A Katy group of young men practiced basketball each Tuesday night in the Katy school old gym under manager W Lowell Robinson. Players include John Cardiff Charlie Wilson Jerry Bean Harold Galloway Van Scroggins Ernest Bishop Melvin Jordan Bobby McShan and Frank Siati. They played the Eatonson town team and a Houston P O team and won both gates.

Walter Daniel Mills born July 13 1860 in Louisa Virginia died November 24 1948 at home in Brookshire Texas He moved from Atlanta to Brookshire in 1894 as the first MK and T railroad agent He served as bank director and president of Farmers State Bank He taught the Adult Bible Class and was a longtime Methodist steward praised as a friend and man of integrity

Baylor Symphony Orchestra Concert Receives Warm Applause

The Baylor Symphony Orchestra presented by the Houston Baylor Club performed Sunday at 8 p.m. in Music Hall under Gib Waldrop. Miss Maebelle Freeman held first chair oboe through college, with Katy relatives in attendance. The ensemble enjoyed a barbecue at the Freeman home after the concert, traveling by chartered bus and later performing in Gonzales and Beaumont.

Dr Edward B Evans to Be Installed Head of Prairie View

Dr Edward B Evans will be installed as head of Prairie View State College at 10 a.m. on December 8. He arrives from Iowa State College and has served Prairie View since 1918 in multiple roles including Acting Registrar and Acting Principal.
