Pattison Opens New School Building and Faculty

Pattison public schools plan a formal opening in a new building on September 6. Two white teachers join the faculty Miss Florence Rogers of Waco will teach high school English and Mrs Thelma Sims will handle 5th and 6th grades. Four new members join the colored schools with assignments pending. White teachers meet September 8 and colored teachers meet September 4 at 9:00 at Samuel Clemons School.

Mrs Daisy Marks 61 of Barker died at 8 30 a m Sunday in a Houston hospital. Family in Seguin crash claim four lives

The Seguin highway crash killed Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Stephenson and two children Joyce 13 and John 10 of San Antonio. Darrell W. Stites of Houston died as driver of a gasoline truck. Mary Stephenson 8 survived with injuries. Rev. Gerald T. Cates 28 later hospitalized with back and head injuries.

Katy Association Opens New Rice Dryer Storage Plant

The Katy Division of the American Rice Growers Association began operation of a $240,000 dryer storage plant on Saturday. The facility, 80 feet high and 211 feet long, with 53 bins and a 240 barrel per hour drying capacity, will receive rice for drying and storage. Plant superintendent Mr. Garber Short and operator Victor Cadriff will manage the new complex featuring reinforced concrete construction and bin signaling systems.

Funeral services for Mrs Louise Walger Walger

Funeral services for Mrs Louise Walger of Orchard were held Monday at the Orchard Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Rev W A Meaking of Needville officiated and burial followed in Orchard Cemetery. She was killed Saturday at 5 30 p m in an automobile truck crash in Orchard. Survived by son Lawrence Walger of Orchard, two sisters Mrs Walter Wilpitz of Brookshire and Mrs Allene Wooster of San Marcos, three brothers C F Trettin, T A Trettin and A H Trettin all of Brookshire. Her husband Henry F Walger preceded her in death August 22 1939. Pallbearers were Henry Mahler Joe Hede A I Lindsey Erskine Priest Julius Grunwald and Emil Grunwald.

Registration of 18 to 25 year olds starts August 30

Registration for the Selective Service Act 1948 opens August 30 for men born from 1922 to 1930 plus those turning 18. Local boards will collect registrations from 8 am to 5 pm at designated spots including Brookshire Pattison City Drug Store Hempstead and City Hall Wales. Specific dates assign each birth year through September 18 with instruction that some men register as they turn 18.

Residence and Office Of Ray Woods Tourisl Courts Completed

The Ray Woods Tourist Courts residence and office center is finished and occupied by Mrs Woods and her parents Mr and Mrs B C Bezerke. The modern building includes two bedrooms living and dining rooms kitchen bath and a central solarium office quarters with Formica aluminum tile Carafa glass and mirrors. A screened porch with flower pot veranda is a featured highlight inviting a future open house in Katy.

Narrow escape after hitchhiker tries to steal car

One of our young men recounts picking up a hitchhiker who hit him over the head as the rider tried to take the car. He escaped unharmed. Moral: don't pick up strangers. Miss Elizabeth Arnold, a smiling waitress, returns to work at the Post Office Cafe. Mrs. Virgil Hill visits Mrs. James Pattis on Monday afternoon.

Caution Lights Installed in Brookshire on Highway 90

The Lions Club installed caution lights in Brookshire along Highway 90. A 30 mph speed limit is posted and the lights serve as warnings to slow traffic for safer driving through the town.

Brookshire Lions Hear Delegates at School Meeting

The Brookshire Lions met last Wednesday at the Brookshire School. The P. T. A. served a dinner to 89 members. Sidney Martin spoke on his trip to New York as a delegate to the International Convention. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7.
