The Brookshire Independent School District board approves white school opening September 16, 1918 for eight months and colored school starting October 7, 1918 for seven months. Compulsory attendance begins November 1, 1918 for eighty days. Fees set for age and residency, with monthly charges for various grades and exemptions.
The item lists monthly dues for W. B. Dewitt as President and Max Wander as Secretary, mentions Wade Sorsby ill with typhoid fever at the San Francisco Naval Training Station, and notes Rev. Frank L. Cox will begin a protracted meeting at the M E Church next Tuesday the 27th. Also promotes insurance and electrical lighting services by Max Wander and F. M. Momeny.
A southbound passenger train and a northbound freight train collided west of town at 7 45 am causing engine and car damage. The passenger crew and several passengers sustained minor injuries while the wrecking was cleared and service resumed by 10 30 am with Red Cross assistance.
The week of November 11 is designated for a combined war fund drive to raise 33 500 000 for Y M C A Y W C A War Camp Community Service and the American Library Association. The four groups report allocations: Y M C A one hundred million Y W C A fifteen million War Camp fifteen million and Library Association two and a half million.
Important business will come before the Home Guards meeting next Monday night the 26th. All members are urged to attend. Mrs. J. H. Jones has been on the sick list this past week.
