Funeral services for Hollie O Conner Allen 49 were held Sunday at 3 p m in Luling with burial in Luling Cemetery He dropped dead at home July 29 about 6 15 p m A World War I Navy veteran he worked for Houston Oil Co since 1942 and later helped his wife in the restaurant business He was survived by his widow Mae Alexander Allen son Hollie Allen Jr of Sherman Oaks California mother Alice Allen of Austin brothers and sisters listed with many friends

Seaborn Sim Middlebrook died August 8 1948 at Sealy hospital at 9 55 p.m. Services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the San Felipe church Rev J D Weaver of Sealy officiated. Interment was in the San Felipe cemetery. Schmidt Funeral home directed.

Youth Caravan Engages Methodist Youth Each Evening

The Youth Caravan group works with Methodist church youth nightly starting at 5 30 featuring supper devotion bible study discussions games and singing. About forty five attendees per night include guests Bob Bridges of Georgia Sarah Hemingway of Kingtree South Carolina Mildre Skelton of Alabama Val Jean Wheeler of Wuanita Nebraska and more visiting families.

Crops Suffer from Drouth Across the Area

Farmers face drought with rice fields abandoned to supply main crop and cotton bolls opening early in the Brazos bottoms. Peanuts also hit by drought while growers dust with DDT to fight cotton worms and corn borers. A weather break could still yield a bumper harvest.

The Pattison Home Dem Club met at Mrs. T R Jones home on Monday July 26. They discussed a community picnic on Sunday August 15 at Pattison Park at 730 PM with baskets lunch. Drinks provided by the club and a cake sale is planned. Mrs Fletcher demonstrated measuring dress patterns and fabric choices for the dress review.
