Funeral Services Held for Wm. Durbin

William Robert Durbin a Houston resident died July 30 after a three day heart illness. services were conducted August 2 in Houston with Rev. G Z Sadler officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Durbin left a wife Madie two sons Otis and William two grandchildren Darline and Gary Dwayne, and several relatives including his mother Mrs A B Mansell and siblings.

Miss Southard to Teach Bible in Katy

Doris Southard will teach a Bible study on the Gospel of John at Katy Baptist Church. Sessions run August 7 11 and August 14 16 from 8 to 9 p m, with a special Aug 9 lecture 7 30 to 8 80 p m. All interested invited to attend any portion.

Local Hempstead Talent Show Seeks Brookshire Contestants

Brookshire talent invited for Hempstead show and tots contest to benefit the Hempstead V F W building fund. The event at Hempstead High School on August 10 11 starts 8 13 p m with a popularity vote for children six and under. Proceeds help the building fund as votes count for participants. Voting jars from Brookshire will be placed in Brookshire stores. Contest opens July 28 and ends August 11. Mothers may call 17 Brookshire Times to enter their child. The King and Queen of Personality will be crowned on stage August 11.

Katy Round-Up Attended by Over 2000 People

About 2000 attended the Katy Gas Plant celebration with 84 owning companies recognizing the plant’s tying in with two existing facilities. Guests heard safety talks and saw awards for Humble Co. Gas Division. Out-of-town visitors and family activities included dances, golf, tennis, and a book review at the Recreation Hall.

Evangelist Bill Hughes Revival Opens at First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church announces a revival starting next Sunday led by evangelist Bill Hughes with a noted Texas background from Buckner's Orphan's Home. Daily services begin next Sunday with 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. weekday hours and 11:00 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday services. Buddy Gartman, a University of Corpus Christi student, is also featured from Houston’s First Church.

Lions Hear Buckshot Lane at Meeting Tuesday

The Brookshire Lions Club met Tuesday night at Brookshire School for a regular monthly gathering. Sheriff J. F. Lane of Wharton County spoke on Communism. Katy Rotary members Fred Hoyt Gene Hudgens and J E Clayton attended. PTA served dinner to members and guests.

Waller County 4-Hers Take Three Day Buchanan Dam Trip

The Waller County 4-H booster club sponsored a three day excursion to Buchanan Dam. Thirty members attended visiting the Capitol Longhorn Cavern and Barton Springs. Accompanying sponsors included Mr and Mrs W C Norris Miss Jimmie Rene Ogg Mrs Janie Fletcher and Mr Jody McCarty with bus driver Randolph Sterling and his family. Lions and Rotarians to Meet in Benefit Softball Game

The Brookshire Lions face the Katy Rotarians in a Thursday August 10 benefit game at the Katy Softball diamond. Sponsored by the Katy PTA, proceeds fund extra band uniforms. tickets are $1 for adults, free for under 18. PTA refreshment stand will be open.

Catholics Plan Novena for Peace Across Diocese

The Galveston diocese announced a novena for peace starting Sunday in over 100 parishes. Bishop Wendelin J. Nold ordered the observance, lasting until August 15, the WWII end anniversary and Feast of the Assumption, with daily benediction and prayers for peace.
