John McGrath of Brookhaven Dies After Illness
Longtime Brookhaven merchant John McGrath dies at 77 after a brief illness from pneumonia. Born in Ireland, he built John McGrath & Sons into a regional department store with branches in Wesson Hazlehurst and Canton. He founded Brookhaven Commercial Bank and leaves a large family including seven children and many grandchildren. He would have celebrated his Golden Wedding next April.
