County convict and poor farm praised as financial success
The article argues the county convict and poor farm saves money by housing prisoners locally rather than in the county jail. It cites yearly costs and prisoner counts, noting cotton price declines but overall cost reductions from $1,000 to $1,700 in avoided jail expenses. Figures show initial purchase cost of $3,900 with ongoing farming costs and projected savings, continued on old page.
