Five day detention rule endorsed by Marine Hospital service
Dr G B of the Marine Hospital service told the Mayor and Board that five days is the tested detention period for quarantine with certificates issued after five days if no disease appears. The Mississippi Board of Health sought six days, but expert opinion supports the five day standard established since 1897. The start of detention is when temperature is first taken, not when leaving the infected point, and those with normal conditions after five or six days may be released.
