City to advertise sale of bonds for school building
The city council ordered advertisement for sealed bids to issue bonds totaling 10 500 dated Sept 1 1890 for building a school. Bids due first Tuesday in September 1903 with 10 percent certified check. Also reported July tax receipts for lights water meter rents a pple globe street tax and total of 1443 37 by City Tax Collector Doc Martin.

At an adjourned meeting on August 2 all officers and members were present except. Alderman Abrams B J Monsey was granted permission to tap the city water main to supply his Forsythe place premises at own expense and pay 2 50 per month for water use. Hon J S Sexton was allowed 150 for counsel in City of Brookhaven v Dunn and others. clerk to issue warrant from revenue fund. Magee’s 20 for listing street hands in 1904 was disallowed. Election of one police officer to replace J M Bleecker. Jesse Smith and J W East elected at 50 per month. Printing bids deferred to September. John A Penn’s painting bid for the old school building referred to Aldermen Larsen and Hartman with authority to contract. County Treasurer Chas Heuck’s July money report examined and approved.

Brookhaven Board Adopts Health Sanitation Ordinance
A special meeting of the Brookhaven Board of Mayor and Aldermen adopted an ordinance granting the City Board of Health general supervision of sanitary conditions. Violations carry fines from five to twenty five dollars or up to eighty days imprisonment. The measure becomes operative on passage. The petition of B F Goza requesting fumigation of railroad freight cars entering Brookhaven was cited.

Brookhaven Appoints Health Board and Reforms Sanitation
Mayor Lanier announced new Brookhaven Board of Health members Dr J L Parsons David Cohn Chas Heuck P T Byrne and Max Lewenthal for a one year term. The board, ex officio chaired by the mayor, orders fumigation of idle cars on Illinois Central tracks and appraises a special inspector at the depot water tank. Extra guards will enforce certifications on arriving trains and an emergency hospital and detention camp are planned nearby.
