Marengo Resident Hredr M Shaleen Dies at 73

Hredr M Shaleen of Marengo formerly of Blanchun avenue died Thursday September 1 at age 73. He is survived by his wife Sarah and daughters Smith Schultz MacKee Dorothy Barrington Lola Star and others, four grandsons and a great grandchild. A retired pharmacist he had lived in Congress for 40 years and moved to Marengo in January. Funeral was held Monday in Marengo.

Brookfield Board OKs Homes and a Shop Plan

Brookfield trustees approved 41 homes by Coronet Construction costing about $8 000 each to be built on Grand Vernon Devo Madison and Sunnyside. A store and machine shop permit was approved for 9082 Ogden, size 24 feet 11 inches by 60 feet by 12 feet, cost 8 000.

Brookfield Adds Two Names to Gold Star Honor Roll

The Brookfield Magnet lists George David Bohaty and David Harry Neilson among Brookfield Memorial Association’s Gold Star honorees. Bohaty, a PFC who died October 1, 1944 in France, was a Hollywood Riverside businessman. Neilson, a technical sergeant and radio man, was missing in action in early 1944 and died over France. his family history links to Chicago and Springfield. The revised roll contains numerous named servicemen and Mrs Maude M. Watson attends a florist convention in Chicago with noted officials present.

Brookfield Firemen Earn Nationwide Fire Prevention Honor

Brookfield firefighters led by Chief Fred McDowell are praised for their clean station, top equipment, and widespread safety outreach. Their annual efforts include electricity safety pamphlets, posters, theater notices, and even report card envelopes educating residents. Brookfield won two consecutive county Fire Prevention Week awards and placed highly in state and national contests.

Land couple announce marriage of William Land and Mabel Einard
