Kiwanis club met Tuesday with 22 members present. Judge Melville of Poena Falls spoke and sang ballads, delighting members, while answering a few questions about his hunting tales. Gov Emil Roelke attended as a guest. beef dinner and praised cooking by Mrs McDonn et al.
Hredr M Shaleen of Marengo formerly of Blanchun avenue died Thursday September 1 at age 73. He is survived by his wife Sarah and daughters Smith Schultz MacKee Dorothy Barrington Lola Star and others, four grandsons and a great grandchild. A retired pharmacist he had lived in Congress for 40 years and moved to Marengo in January. Funeral was held Monday in Marengo.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dearmore of Sheridan welcomed a son Donald Will. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hopson of Lincoln moved from Oak Park with son Robert K. G.. Mrs. Clarence Helvig of Elm shares two children John and Mary Alice. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rathgeb of Maple relocate from Cleveland, with Mr. Rathgeb working at the IGA store.
Brookfield trustees approved 41 homes by Coronet Construction costing about $8 000 each to be built on Grand Vernon Devo Madison and Sunnyside. A store and machine shop permit was approved for 9082 Ogden, size 24 feet 11 inches by 60 feet by 12 feet, cost 8 000.
Pack 59 cub scouts at St Barbara's school hall get plans for the coming year. Present: Pegeh Rezabek Conigtio Grigei Cepek Beaudoin. Regular pack meeting set for Sept 18. District council picnic on Sept 14 at Cantigny woods. families invited.
The Brookfield Magnet lists George David Bohaty and David Harry Neilson among Brookfield Memorial Association’s Gold Star honorees. Bohaty, a PFC who died October 1, 1944 in France, was a Hollywood Riverside businessman. Neilson, a technical sergeant and radio man, was missing in action in early 1944 and died over France. his family history links to Chicago and Springfield. The revised roll contains numerous named servicemen and Mrs Maude M. Watson attends a florist convention in Chicago with noted officials present.
Brookfield firefighters led by Chief Fred McDowell are praised for their clean station, top equipment, and widespread safety outreach. Their annual efforts include electricity safety pamphlets, posters, theater notices, and even report card envelopes educating residents. Brookfield won two consecutive county Fire Prevention Week awards and placed highly in state and national contests.
Riverside Brookfield Community Concert associations announced four programs for the 1947 48 season. Mary Van Kirk mezzo soprano appears December 1, Todd Duncan baritone February 16, Rudolph Pirsny piano March 20, and the St Corps Sinfonium April 29. Concerts begin at 8 15 p m with card only admission set to mail December 1 per Miss Bradinerd.
Mr and Mrs Stanley Land of 83127 Sunnyside avenue announce the marriage of their eldest son William Joseph Land to Miss Mabel Einard of 8122 Prairie avenue. The couple wed in Chicago on August 5 and will reside with the Lands for the time being.
The Zoning Board of Appeals of Brookview Village will hold a public hearing October 2 at 8 p.m. at Village Hall to consider William F. Schimek’s petition to build a home in the 3700 block of Morton Ave. Property is the south half of Lot 2 in Block 22 in Portiam Manor, part of the SW quarter of Section 24, Township 39, Range 12 E. The subdivision was recorded February 6, 1915 in Cook County Illinois. All interested parties may be heard.
