In recent weeks the Watsons renovated their Grand Street shop interior and rearranged displays. Mr and Mrs Watson assisted in decorating and many visitors praised the lovely Mawers pottery and decorative plaques on show.
SlUungis Veterans Commission warns that change of address or name by marriage requires re registration with the county clerk or board of election commissioners. Service members remain continuous while absent for duty, and wartime spouses may vote by affidavit if they meet age and residency rules. Service Officer A G Broekman will assist veterans and dependents in determining voting status.
The Brookfield Junior Woman's Club began its club year with a dinner at the White House in LaGrange honoring new president Marilyn Corleto. Guests included Mrs. Frank Derrick and Mrs. Elmer Bartlett. Corleto was presented yellow and bronze mums. The first business meeting is set for Friday October 4 at Marilyn Corleta's home.
October chill settles over A-B as new council members join freshmen and sophomores in leadership roles. Fresh cheerleaders led by Pat Simon and Gloria Fazekas debuted at LaGrange with two male leaders Bob Cook and Don Fears adding acrobatics. Memory organ delivery remains December 4 after delays. Clarion staff reshuffled for 1946-47. Sports roundup notes Susie the mascot, a Cards victory over the Lions, and fresh-soph football and cross country losses.
Ruth Fisher Holbrook presents a veal stew using soured cream to enrich gravy. Cut veal into serving pieces, coat with flour, brown in shortening, then simmer with carrots onions peppercorns salt and one cup soured cream for about an hour.
Barcus Kindred and Company report Illinois state gas tax receipts totaled 16 689 000 in the first six months of 1946, up from 7 451 892 in 1945. Chicago received 2 764 011 versus 1 917 217, Cook County 2 093 360 versus 1 414 400, and outside Chicago 457 510 versus 315 375. All counties statewide gain, boosting postwar street and highway funding for municipalities.
Brookfield Health Center hosts a semi monthly Child Health conference for children six and under. Dr Cech conducts exams and offers parental guidance with nurse Sweeney assisting. Sponsored by Health Center Committee and The Tuberculosis Institute of Chicago in cooperation with Cook County. Thursday Oct 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at 8377 Prairie Ave Brookfield.
Fourteen years as a missionary in North China will prepare Rev. Jm ius Bergstrom to speak on evangelizing China. He will present and show colored pictures at the Brookfield church on Friday evening. Bergstrom plans to go to China sometime next year to continue the work. The Brookfield church is at 9012 Fairview Ave.
Milton Hummel new superintendent of Gross school will address the Birthday Supper club at Brookfield Methodist church Sunday at 7 30 pm. He speaks on Youth Recreation. A naval veteran in his first year at Gross his message has drawn broad village interest. Over 100 young married people from Brookfield churches and nearby communities expected to attend dessert supper and entertainment.
