Brookfield Junior Woman's Club Opens Season at White House

The Brookfield Junior Woman's Club began its club year with a dinner at the White House in LaGrange honoring new president Marilyn Corleto. Guests included Mrs. Frank Derrick and Mrs. Elmer Bartlett. Corleto was presented yellow and bronze mums. The first business meeting is set for Friday October 4 at Marilyn Corleta's home.

Gasoline tax allotments rise in Illinois in 1946 half-year

Barcus Kindred and Company report Illinois state gas tax receipts totaled 16 689 000 in the first six months of 1946, up from 7 451 892 in 1945. Chicago received 2 764 011 versus 1 917 217, Cook County 2 093 360 versus 1 414 400, and outside Chicago 457 510 versus 315 375. All counties statewide gain, boosting postwar street and highway funding for municipalities.

Mission speaker to discuss evangelizing China

Fourteen years as a missionary in North China will prepare Rev. Jm ius Bergstrom to speak on evangelizing China. He will present and show colored pictures at the Brookfield church on Friday evening. Milton Hummel to Speak at Couples Club Meeting

Milton Hummel new superintendent of Gross school will address the Birthday Supper club at Brookfield Methodist church Sunday at 7 30 pm. He speaks on Youth Recreation. A naval veteran in his first year at Gross his message has drawn broad village interest. Over 100 young married people from Brookfield churches and nearby communities expected to attend dessert supper and entertainment.
