Wartime shifts in shopping days raise questions on Saturday peak
A column notes that wartime shortages moved shopping activity to Thursday and Friday, with some shift back to Saturday after noon in towns with farmer trade. It observes Riverside and similar areas kept Saturday afternoon/vig shopping, while many workers now have little or no Saturday work. A light aside recalls Little Abner’s scenery gag and a Riverside man remembered for dignity. Church schedule details and local hospital notices follow.
