Metro debate titles at stake in Calumet City meet
The Metropolitan Debate union finals are set for Saturday in Calumet City. George Rogers Clark high leads with 19 wins and 3 losses, while La Grange and LaPorte chase with 18 and 4. La Grange could clinch first by winning all eight matches against Clark, LaPorte, Thornton Fractional and Thornton of Harvey. Clark needs a strong day to stay alive. Barbara Eifler placed third in the district extemporaneous speaking contest, with LTHS to attend the sectional meet under coach Ivan Rehn. If La Grange enters high enough, it advances to the state tournament later this month. Two La Grange freshman-sophomore teams will enter the West Aurora underclassmen tourney March 22, largely comprising varsity debaters.
