Past Presidents of the Brookfield Post No 2868 Ladies Auxiliary VFW hosted a turkey dinner May 26 at the Krall home in Hollswood with a Paris motif and sidewalk cafe background. The event honored past presidents and resumes in September at Bradley's Brookfield home.
St Barbara's Mothers Club hosts a fete for school grads at Bud's Steak House on June 1. The event honors the eighth of ten graduates and features hostesses at the school, with officers including Mrs John P. Win as president, Mrs Glen Chapel as vice president, Feeney as third vice president, Mrs Flowers as treasurer, and others.
Police report says a boy, a student at a local school, was injured in a car crash near 9001 Sheridan. He was taken for examination after sustaining abrasions on his forehead and fingers. further details unclear.
A busy Memorial Day weekend featured numerous picnics and social calls. Residents from Elm Avenue to Oak Park visited relatives in Aurora Rice Lake and Downers Grove while families hosted guests at homes on Custer Avenue and Forest Avenue.
Commonwealth Edison Company announces to the public that on June 1, 195S the Illinois Commerce Commission was filed with to consolidate rate schedules E-2-M and Hl. C. C. No. 5 with Schedule F-2. Rate 24 Municipal Pumping and Street Lighting Service would extend to locations outside of its corporate units in the area formerly served by Western United Company. No other charges or service conditions change. Copies available at company offices or from the ICC Springfield office.
The West Suburban Alumna association of Kappa Delta held its final meeting of the year at Mrs. H. Kuehl's home in Clarendon Hills with co host Mrs. John Pottenger. Officers installed include President Mrs. Chester Clute first vice president Mrs. Ralph Callendar second vice president corresponding secretary Mrs. Kurath recording secretary Mrs. F. Wayne Berwyn treasurer Mrs. T. Hetting Hinsdale and editor Pres. John Pattenginer. A program of art surveillance presented by Mrs. D. T. Duffield a Kappa Delta mother featured Degas and Renoir paintings. Mrs Callendar of Hinsdale drew a pastel portrait of a member.
Miss Luellen Horn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Horn of Prairie Ave, was honored at a bridal shower May 25 at National Hall. 87 guests attended as hostesses Mary Uner and Valasta Chocoia arranged decorations with help from Mya Tomasino and Mrs. Myslivecek. A bride’s cake was provided by Mrs. Gregor and cakes by Mrs. Horne. Corsages and favors were given to each guest.
Squeaks of pets and kids will accompany one of the era’s four best bands in a massive parade. At least 28 musical units, including top performers, will entertain along the march route. Jack Brickhouse will commentate on a 90 minute telecast with Fred Ashley Homer Field and Bill Leach providing running highlights. Officials at LaGrange Park and LaGrange will judge group entries at LaGrange Rd and Burlington. Local leaders Walter J. Madigan Joseph F. Sheen and others will be on hand with involved organizations serving as judges for 15 parade sections.
A May 26 gathering at 9487 Ave. celebrated Mrs Sparenapgle and attendees. Winners Mateo Zolan, Mary Gramley, Eunice Rosenmeir, and Evelyn Grady were announced. Other members included Rose Mathias, Dorothy North, Kay Va cha, Mildred Incrocci, and Evelyn Knepple. Refreshments and a pleasant time followed the program.
Highlands community events include stage and TV stars in a parade with prize awards at the high school grounds. Sgt. Preston’s huskie King and Willie Meeker’s eight dalmations are slated as special features. Parade marshal William Spicer leads, aided by a long list of assistants including Leroy Nelson, Ruth Anderson, Robert Stewart, Arthur Morgan, and others.
About 32 scouts and explorers from Troop and Post 51 of Clarendon Hillis spent a weekend at the West Suburban Boy Scout council campsite near Dundee. They worked on basic scoutcraft skills in a new weekend site.
