Marie Wegryn notes the 2nd birthday of Diane Marie Wegryn on December 14 with family gathered including grandparents Mr and Mrs Lind and Johnny Wolz. Relatives helped, a Donald Duck film was shown, cake and ice cream served, and Diane received gifts.
Brookfield dedicated a monument to veterans who died in service on November 9 with Frank Marsh leading the ceremony alongside former Mayor Charles Horak and AMVETS Commander Sproat. Wreaths graced a marble column bearing Brookfield Gold Star veterans. Local groups including the American Legion and AMVETS organized events and scholarships for Riverside Brookfield and Lyons Township high schools. Robert Morrow retired as West Suburban American Veterans Committee chairman. Bob Ries of LaGrange became head.
Wesley Kurth, president of the Kiwanis club, and Village Manager Shurtleff appeared in the December issue of The Mierowan Bulletin. Brookfield residents received copies this week. The photograph was taken at the ladies night party where Mr and Mrs Shurtleff were guests of honor.

James F. Shurtleff of Mansfield selected as Brookfield village manager after CMA pledge. At 26 he earns 6000 dollars yearly and previously ran Mansfield’s village government. April trustees named CMA slate including Cox, Fash, Gross, Kanelos as police magistrate, and Sloan and Watson to library board.
In Brookfield during 1947 churches remained active despite weather. The 65th anniversary of Brookfield Methodist Church was celebrated with Dr Ger war McGullcumh as speaker. Faith Lutheran marked veterans with a defier flag ceremony and Congress Park Community Church installed a new organ.
Funeral services for the late Robert A Turner of 2447 Sunnyside avenue will be held Saturday at 1 30 PM from the funeral home at 2307 South Laramie avenue Chicago. Interment will be at Oakridge cemetery. Surviving are the widow Gertrude nee Holmstrom and children Dorothy Zielke Leverity and Robert G Turner. He was son of George and the late Janet Turner and brother of Margaret Hauser and Violet Waunderlick. Grandfather of three.
