Lyons Township Women’s Republican luncheon at White House La Grange
The Lyons Township Women’s Regular Republican organization held a luncheon at the White House in La Grange on Jan 25. Wesley Jones of the International Accident and Health Underwriters spoke on federal health bills S 1679 and HR 600, calling parts of them subversive while praising others. He traced U.S. health bill history, compared socialized medicine in Britain, and warned that the HR 6000 rider could cement socialized medicine in the U.S. He urged study and discussion, lauded the Young Republicans, and challenged Clare Carr and Pat Pearson to involve more youths. The audience asked questions. Members encouraged voter registration for March 1-3 and planned a February 6 meeting at Mrs. T. A. Abbott’s home. A town meeting to bring E. Dirkson to the township is set for March 14 at Cossitt School.
