July building permits dip in Brookfield area amid high costs
A Brookfield report shows only eight building permits issued in July totaling 98,700, far below last year’s 86 permits valued at 861,035. Surrounding towns Lyons and LaGrange also posted sparse July activity. Builders and brokers cite high labor and material costs as driving home prices beyond veterans and wage earners, with critics accusing limited construction to boost profits. The Magnetics survey notes contractors blame costs for the slowdown, while five room two story brick homes data from 1988 1942 and 1946 were prepared by Charles Ringer Co.
