Miss Mary Thayer Undergoes Appedicitis Operation

Word came Saturday afternoon to Mr and Mrs BE M Thayer that Miss Mary Thayer studying at Wesly hospital was operated on at 1 30 for an acute attack of appendicitis. So far as her parents knew she had been in perfect health and had just returned to Chicago from a vacation at home. She went through the operation nicely.

Bring Your Children For Examination

The Child Hygiene Division of the State Board of Health with the Red Cross will visit Newton County from September 27 to October 10. Dr Schweitzer will lead infant and child exams under seven years and older children, with talks and lantern slides. The visit ends October 6 in the Brook library basement with Mrs Howard Myers in charge. An auto accident in town left Mrs Sam Waling bruised but not seriously injured after a glancing collision near John Pence's store.

Meat Market Changes Hands in Local Trade Shift

On Monday the meat market owned by Ormond Pruett passed to Elmer Harkrider who then sold the groceries to seal merchants and closed the shop to retail trade. He plans to use the building for storage and for handling excess staff. Mr Pruett ran a market credited to the community and built up a strong trade before returning to the farm.
