After months of dispute the Indiana Coal Operators have agreed to supply coal for the coming winter. The Indiana Commission has pressured them into action, promising not cheap coal but assured supply for all.
Mr and Mrs Ephie White learn their son Addison died after rheumatic treatment in Hot Springs Arkansas infection followed a tooth extraction. Addison, raised in Brook, served in the navy at Naval Training Stations. His funeral was held at the Christian church with Rev Dillman officiating and burial in Brook Cemetery.
Addison Truman White son of Ephriam and Rosa White was born January 21 1893 near Kentland Indiana He served in the U S Naval Service from July 1918 to June 1919 and died October 22 1920 in Hot Springs Arkansas He belonged to Brook Christian Church since 1906 and was a respected affectionate son in the home His death leaves his family including his mother father one brother and Miss Pauline Messman awaiting his bride to be with many relatives and friends.
Mr and Mrs Elmer White express sincere thanks to friends who offered sympathy and deeds during the bereavement following the death of their son and brother Elmer White.
The Brack Christian Endeavor of 148 0. B. Church held an afternoon and evening rally on Wednesday. District Workers attended and the St. Joseph's Conference Quartet joined with the program. Quartet members include Rev. Slekafoose former Brook pastor Rev. W. T. Kessinger J. B. Geek and M. S. Livengood.
Police urged residents to report burglaries after a Saturday night break in at Bernard Fantes Ice Cream Parlor. Authorities found the front and back doors open and the cash drawer rifled, with a sack of pennies missing. The incident appears carefully planned and limited to the cash area.
Rainy night drew a crowd to the Community Building to hear William Heddrick discuss the League of Nations. Heddrick, a former Progressive Party representative, endorsed the Covenant from a Democratic lawyer’s view and aligned with Taft Root and major religious leaders. Fred Barnett, Democratic Congressional candidate, also spoke on national issues in a clear, concise address.
The Harding Special failed to reach Brook on schedule due to a breakdown and crowd delays. Singers and one speaker arrived at 6 30 PM without the engine, entertaining attendees yet weather and car trouble wore out the speaker who gave only a brief address as many left before he spoke.

A Fountain Park rally drawn by rain earlier in the day drew a fair crowd in the afternoon. Miss Kessin opened with strong oratory on the League of Nations Covenant. Warren T. McCray spoke on national and state issues, pledging businesslike administration and praising Landis. Buckskin Landis followed with a sharp, well received dissection of the Covenant.
Ladoga high school defeated Brook high school 29 to 13 at Ladoga Tuesday night. Ladoga led 13 to 6 at halftime as Brook used nine players in a bid to stave off defeat. In the curtain raiser the Peacock Specials beat Roachdale 11 to 3 and next Friday the Highland Wave land girls meet Ladoga girls.
New Richmond high school defeated Brook high school 22 to 11 at New Richmond. New Richmond led 14 to 1 at halftime as Burnett and Campbell starred for the winners while Park led Brook. Also notes visitors at Sunday gathering mix local families and relatives.
On Monday evening November 3 a large Community Halloween Masquerade will be held on the streets of Brook. Masks are urged and events begin at 6:90 PM with a Grand Assembly on the street. At 7:30 PM the parade forms for the march to the Community Building where doors open at 8:00 PM. Judges on stage will evaluate costumes as the parade passes with prizes for best single costume best costumed couple and best group. Prizes are on display at Montgomery and Snyder's. Entertainment at the Community Building features Mike Selval and local talent with songs a children's band and amateur acts sure to entertain. This is your affair help make it a success.
The thirtieth annual meeting of the state trustees association was held in Indianapolis. Trustees discussed duties to coming generations and urged replacing one room schools with modern consolidated buildings to improve health and welfare. Attendees praised consolidated schools. absent trustees missed a valuable gathering.
Saturday canvas in Brook seeks donations for the Halloween Carnival expenses. Residents are urged to forego a tag and contribute what they can to provide a good time for Brook youths and nearby families.
Thursday slate includes Bringing Up Father in Society and The Young Mrs Winthrop with Ethel Clayton. Friday shows Starguerite Clark in Girls. Saturday features The Lady of Red Butte with Dorothy Dalton. Evening also offers comedies, prices 10c to 30c and a Tarzan return engagement.
A mixed local roundup lists household sales including aspirin tablets at 19¢ and 10¢ per box, piano offerings in a November sale, and a mahogany writing desk for $25. Mrs Bernice German and Clinton Hayworth of Morocco were married in Benton Harbor Michigan on Monday October 4. The ceremony took place at the home of Mr and Mrs Sam Nichols with Rev Yard officiating. The couple will reside in the former Archibald residence after a short honeymoon. Mayworth formerly worked as chief operator at the local exchange and is esteemed by many friends. Hayworth, a Morrocco native, served with Marines in France during the war. The Courier extends warm congratulations and best wishes.
A Belgian flagged hot air balloon from the Belgica line crossed Brook near Orchard Lake and delayed near the Kindy farm. It dropped pamphlets and called for the pilots to identify Indiana and Indianapolis as it drifted northeast toward Rensaeler before fading.
A Woman's Club committee will be at the Library Thursday to Saturday afternoon and evening to instruct on operating the voting machine. The machines will be locked Monday, so this is the last chance to learn before Election Day. Both men and women are urged to inspect and learn the device. Tonight features Bringing Up Father at Jiggy in Society with the usual cast.
From November 1 to 25 a nationwide Red Cross drive seeks to raise and renew membership. Newton County is urged to reach 2500 members as the organization emphasizes aid to war torn Europe. A local social note records the Foresman family’s Sunday trip to Dayton for visits and cemetery duties amid town chatter of a big Friday night game.
