Brook High School Commencement in Community Building

Commencement exercises were held last Friday evening in the community building for Brook High School graduates. Dr Boyd Jones of Bloomington urged higher education, praising community effort in building, while Fowler Orchestra provided music and Prof Hogg praised the class as the best yet, presenting diplomas.

Present Prof Hogg With Pleasant Remembrance

Brook High School faculty honored Prof. Hogg on his departure with a surprise presentation of a book case. Joe Badger delivered the speech while Jarvis Davis lauded his four years of leadership, noting strengthened school spirit and athletics. After songs and class yells, guests enjoyed refreshments.

Flower tubs bring beauty to town streets

Ladies tended flower tubs while tots helped plant. Businessmen must water and weed to improve nightly appearance. Some tubs were neglected last year. With care, tubs will add to street beauty and pride. Reporter notes community effort to beautify town.

Decoration Day Parade and Ceremony in Brook 1920

The town observes Decoration Day with a 3 30 PM street parade from McKinsey Park to the Community Building followed by a program including songs, addresses, a Gettysburg speech, and graveside rituals. A weather contingency moves the gathering to the Community Building at 2 PM. Also noted are a May Wednesday wedding in Brook and travel plans, plus a district missionary convention trip to Morocco.

Red Cross Members Called to Meet at Library Sunday

Ten members of the Red Cross are urged to gather at the library Sunday at 1:00 PM to participate in a community march. Fred Lyons was in Chicago on business this week.

Local Herefords Sale Opens New County Market Trend

The first annual Newton County Hereford breeders sale was held at Orchard Lake Stock Farm after McCray’s sale. Forty five head sold for 21525 dollars an average 450 dollars. cows and heifers averaged 528 dollars. Fleming of Jackson Township led with seventeen head selling and top bull price reached 1000 dollars. Buyers from seven states attended including Indiana Illinois Michigan Iowa and Missouri. The sale signals stronger Hereford marketing with seven states represented and a broad distribution of consignments and purchasers.

Memorial Services Honor Nations Dead at Brook MEE Church

The Caval Memorial Services were held last Sunday at the M E church with a crowded auditorium. Veterans and citizens gathered to honor fallen heroes as Commander M A Jones and other listed members attended. Dr Gobin delivered a scholarly sermon linking citizenship and patriotism to divine guidance, praising true American ideals.

Eighth Grade Commencement Set for June 3 at Brook

The county eighth grade commencement will be held Thursday at the Community Building in Brook. About twelve hundred seats are available with no admission fee. Dr Byron W King of Pittsburgh will deliver the address. The program includes Pomp and Circumstances, vocal solos, a class address Pay Up or Quit, diploma presentations, and benediction.
