Funeral of Civil War veteran Joseph Whiting
The funeral for Joseph Whiting was held at the Christian Church Saturday morning with military honors. A squad of Veterans of 61 and 65 escorted the body to church and cemetery, led by Samuel Pierce and others. Widowed wife and son Thomas of Brook survived, with numerous relatives from Indiana and Illinois in attendance. The pastor, Rev. Binod, delivered the sermon and spoke on the great reward in the afterlife. A card of thanks from Mrs J Al Waiting and children followed.

The funeral was held Friday at 2 56 in the U B Church. Rev Robinson led the service focusing on David and a life of service to the Master. Remains were buried in the local cemetery beside his wife.
