J Frank Hanley died after a collision at a Pennsylvania Railroad crossing near Daunisel Ohio. A freight train blocked the crossing as a passenger train approached. both occupants of a Kilgore Ohio couple were killed. Hanley, once governor of Indiana and a noted prohibition advocate, had long been active in Republican politics and anti saloon work. Funeral services were held in Indianapolis with burial in Williamsport Indiana.
The Commissioners Court sold seven new stone road contracts on Monday. Alva Herriman bid Lene Alyat road at 241294.00, Corbin road at 3297.20, the first road at 16500.00, D K Fryat road at 14027.00.
The contract for the new se h ine building at Enos was sold to Ed Moore of Danville Illinois. Total cost estimated at 32225 dollars for the plant including 25224 building and 7900 heating and plumbing. Plans include two recitation rooms and a fan assembly room.
Erhardt Woerthner reports twenty acres of wheat yielding twenty-seven and a half bushels per acre. Beaver and Lawler had forty acres damaged by fly and plowed as not worth saving, averaging nine bushels per acre. They also had forty acres not worked averaging twenty. Arthur Daugherty’s twenty acres on Harvey Kannal land yielded twenty-five bushels per acre. Thomas Cain had a small field averaging over twenty-one bushels per acre.
John A. Sell sustained a head and shoulder injury after climbing the engine drive wheel to restart a stuck valve on a threshing machine west of Itown. Steam forced the wheel, hurling him to the ground where he was found unconscious. A doctor said the shock’s severity was uncertain and he was kept at Quince Hood’s farm until evening. Also noted is a lost small suitcase with a six year old girl’s clothing between Brock and Colfax townships.
Complex financial scandal centers on Haub Grain Company of Ranb Beatart County. Manager Lee W Kelley fled, leaving about 70000 in shortages. Debts claimed from Sawyer Grain Co of Chicago and Indianapolis and McCardle Black of Indianapolis, alleged as gambling debts. legality contested as lawmakers decide on tax and bond measures.
Livestock groups plan a two day show this fall and offer to hold it at Brook if a housing building and speakers are provided. A meeting is set for next Tuesday at the Library to decide whether to accept or reject the proposal and to coordinate a Home Coming event.

Charles Leitzow Dean died Wednesday after more than a year of illness. He underwent an operation last spring but only rallied briefly. A hard working, upright citizen, he supported his family and rebuilt his home recently before death. He leaves a wife and several children. Mirg Lesta Gibbons of Terre Haute visits her uncles Ray and L. L. Hershman. Also many notices include Cecil B. Frank Ricker opens a Vulcanizing Shop in Park Building east of the Post Office offering better service at fair prices.

Saturday presents Owen Moore in The Desperate Hero plus Christie Comedy. Monday Cecil B DeMilles For Wetter or For Worse Rainbow Comedy at 10 and 20 cents. Wednesday Marion Davies in Cinema Murder Marie Walcampe Western 10 and 20 cents. Thursday Dorothy Dalton in His Wifes Friend at 10 and 20 cents. Friday big production Cecil B DeMille’s Male and Female with Mack Sennet Comedy 15 and 85 cents. Saturday William S Hart in The Money Coral with Christie Comedy 18 and 26 cents.
Last week the quarter section where Iash Gerrich resided sold to a Newton county man for 400 dollars per acre, Wat Unger near Kentland bought it. The piece, bought amid talk of overpricing, contrasts with prewar values when corn ranged 50 to 60 cents and land fetched 150 to 200 dollars per acre. Proponents argue land remains safer investment than government bonds, noting that thousands of Newton county acres could not be bought today for 300 per acre.
