Coke County Seeks 7 Teachers for 1940 41

Coke County requested Southwest Texas State Teachers College for seven teachers for 1940 41 as a response to a severe postwar shortage. From Texas, 2021 calls were received with 552 placements. calls far exceeded placements in 1940 and 1941. Educational leaders urge former teachers to return and women recent graduates to enroll for ten and a half months of study.

Smith Buys Bronte Blacksmith Shop and Moves Family

J H Smith and his family arrive in Bronte to establish residence after purchasing the J N Tannehill blacksmith shop. Navy seeks men with first aid training for hospital corps

An urgent appeal calls for men aged 17 to 60 with first aid experience to join the Navy hospital corps. Enlist as hospital apprentice, first class with pay of 66 dollars monthly plus room, board, clothing and medical and dental care and possible dependent allowances. Recruiter Chief W L Ryan notes enlistment possible after draft orders if before induction. recruiting office in San Angelo post office building operates 8 am to 8 pm weekdays and 8 am to 1 pm Sundays.
