Last Thursday Friday and Saturday Bronte area residents registered for gas permits under wartime regulations. At Bronte school house 278 vehicles were recorded for rationing, following similar registrations at every local school.
Daily two way intra state bus timetable shows departures from Abilene at 1 00 AM 3 15 PM and from San Angelo at 9 20 AM 6 45 PM with intermediate stops including Camp Barkeley View Happy Valley Bronte and Robert Lee Final note states no passengers between Abilene and San Angelo both directions.
Coke Countians completing applications for enlistment in the Navy through the San Angelo Recruiting Substation include G. S. Humphries of Bronte and John H. Eseue of Robert Lee. C. All en, county chairman of the Coke County Gas Rationing Board, visited Bronze on business related to gas rationing and greeted many friends.
The Navy added 50 aviation electronics and other specialist ratings this week, enabling recruits to enlist with petty officer ratings if skilled, or enter technical schools for training while drawing Navy pay. Men aged 17 to 50, regardless of draft classification, may visit the San Angelo Navy Recruiting Sub-Station in the post office building for details.
Miss Lottie Ivey formerly teaching at the Holding Institute in Laredo has become a nurse at St. Johns Hospital in San Angelo. She cited financial reasons for the move, noting her new role pays more. Friends in Bronte will be glad she remains within reach.
