J. M. West of Des Moines New Mexico and Mr. and Mrs. Benson with their son Carroll and Miss Maxine Benson visited the editor. West, a New Mexico state senator, spoke of the Dust Bowl and praised Roosevelt relief through WPA and other agencies for sustaining farmers and ranchers in the region.
The speaker lauded President Roosevelt and democracy in New Mexico where Republican rule has a long history. He praised Governor Tingley for hiring based on merit rather than political pull, noting improved conditions in the state and urging the same in Texas.
S L Pierce of Cochran county and four of his Morton sons visited the area late last week for a fishing trip on the Colorado river. Pierce, an abstractor, has aided Coke county officials with school lands. Local officials praised his courtesy and kindness. The visitors had medium luck but enjoyed the trip, and Pierce was called a fine, pleasing gentleman.
Mrs Nathan Johnson and her two daughters traveled to Brownfield for a three week visit to see Mrs Johnsons parents.
Rev. and Mrs. Lewis Stuckey Rev. Roy Stuckey and Idward Cumbie Jr. attended the Baptist Encampment at Menard this week. Later the Stuckey family returned and reported a great time at the gathering.

Mrs S T Hallmark and J A Smith and family visited Mr Smith’s daughter Wins at Miles. Also present were Miss Billie Joe Embree Ballinger Miss Vondyl McIver and June Vance Kermit. The men fished the Concho River and brought a large catch to host for a fish fry.
Miss Lorie Jackson, attending the Howard Payne College summer session at Brownwood, spent the weekend at home. She will teach again in the Mazeland school at Wilmeth.
Miss Elizabeth Leonard a Bronte school educator attends a summer session at Texas Technological College and returns to Bronte after a weekend visit.
Mr Yarnell of Norton reports excellent crop prospects in his area after a recent hail storm battered cotton. The cotton is recovering and looks better now than ever, signaling strong potential yields for the current season.
We express deep gratitude to friends for kindness during Mrs Beaty’s illness and after her death. Your sympathy and gentle ministries brought comfort to J C W Beaty and family. The flowers reminded us of her sweet life. May God bless you all.
In Austin Texas June 28 Dr Geo W Cox State Health Officer cites a fifteen million dollar annual loss in Texas due to rates, based on an estimate of two rats per person. He links rising typhus fever to rat infestations and explains rats carry fleas that bite humans spreading Brills Disease. Control relies on rat extermination through trapping and poisoning, a difficult task.
The passage explains that results come from starving rats by ratproofing all buildings where food is stored. The State Department of Agriculture offers to assist communities in the extermination program of this pest.
Waldo Fletcher left Wednesday night for Washington to attend the Boy Scout Jamboree. From there he will travel to New York for a Scout school, chosen by Texas officials as one of forty attendees from numerous applicants.
Rob Herron and Dick Pruitt rushed from Eunice New Mexico to Bronte Friday night and returned home Sunday afternoon.
The Methodist Womens Missionary Society met at the church Monday afternoon, completed the Bible Study "The Radiant Heart." Five women attended.
