Pecans May Harbor Disease Through Shelled Handling

A health warning from E DyKoerth indicates shelled pecans themselves are not at fault but the unsanitary shelling and handling, especially at home, can spread disease. Inspectors report many home shelling operations lack sanitation and advocate health certificates for all involved and demand shellers be identified.
