A Bronte Texas community brief notes that the legislature may adjourn soon. A scientist links diet to facial expression, joking that locals should eat sugar for ten years. The piece hints at summer fishing season and changes in the business district as streets improve.
Runnels County health nurse Miss Beulah White made her second visit to North Norton School on Friday April 9 to check on yearlong undertakings and perform home visits. Third and fourth grade pupils excelled in a social science baseball quiz with correct answers earning base hits. Merrill Herring and Weldon Lee led teams as Henry Herring’s squad won. At a board meeting, Misses Daisy Ruth Sebastian and Maxine Crockett were re-elected for the 1937 1938 term, with Sebastian serving as principal and Crockett as assistant teacher.
The March 31 1987 report shows assets totaling 360 220 73 with loans and discounts and investments including United States government obligations and other securities. Deposits total 287 563 14 and capital accounts list common stock 250 shares 25 000 surplus 18 500 and profits 11 451 02.
An advertisement from Hudman’s Feed Store in Bronte promotes Eggstractor claiming worms and external parasites are eliminated and egg production doubles or money refunded. The copy urges customers to buy a bottle and “put your chickens on a dividend basis” with “12t” as a tag line.
The North Norton School will complete its 1936 37 term from May 14 according to a recent announcement. Several county schools close earlier but North Norton will run the scheduled eight months.
Seventh graders study Treasure Island and follow daily readings. The sixth grade also listens in to the adventures, enriching class discussions and expanding overall engagement with the story.
A brisk classroom buzz follows questions on a boy named Jim Hawkins and his escape from Long John Silver as well as curiosity about Milford and Alvis liking ribbons in their hair. Students ask if girls favor lipstick and inquire about a girl’s beau. L. C. Underwood is noted as a favorite with the girls while sixth and seventh graders enjoy writing notes.
Oak Creek notes Franklin Heath and wife of Ballinger visited with his mother Mrs E F Heath then returned Sunday. Miss Edna Vaughn formerly of Oak Creek married Severn Johnson of San Angelo March 22 at Ballinger and will reside in San Angelo. Onita Faye Ballew had tonsil removal last Saturday and is recovering. W F Forrest of Winters visited the Luckett home Friday and Saturday.
