The President Sends Greetings

The White House in Washington releases a brief message titled The President Sends Greetings. It summarizes a formal greeting from the president, addressing the nation and inviting unity and continued civic cooperation.

Fort Chadbourne Texas Forts Historic Outpost on Butterfield Route

The Fort Chadbourne site in Coke County was established October 28 1852 as one of ten forts to protect settlers from hostile Indians and served as a Butterfield Overland Stage Route station from 1858 to 1861. It changed hands during the Civil War era, was abandoned in 1861 and 1867, and finally left by troops in December 1867. The fort, named for Lt Theodore Lincoln Chadbourne who died at Resaca de la Palma in 1846, sits on Oak Creek near Bronte and Blackwell. The government held a 99 year lease on the site with taxes and surface damages recorded in 1854. Supplies often moved from San Antonio, 215 miles away, and Butterfield mail left Fort Chadbourne weekly for Fort Mason.
