Scarlet fever warns Texas caregivers of rising danger

In Austin on September 30 Dr. Geo. W. Cox, Texas State Health Officer, warns that scarlet fever is above normal levels in the state. He notes it is highly infectious, usually starts with sore throat and fever, then a red rash, and can cause serious complications including sinusitis, ear infections, mastoiditis, and potential heart or kidney involvement. Prompt medical evaluation and treatment reduce harm.

World Trips Per Person in Coke County Highlight Pullman War Moves

The Pullman Company reports massive troop transport since Pearl Harbor with 14,000,000 soldiers carried and 15 billion passenger miles. Coke County residents and servicemen are noted as first-time Pullman riders with many rounds during training. Mass moves total over 870,000 troops monthly, while civilian travel also climbs toward a 1948 peak.

Wartime rail service burdens travelers and duty

Kelly said the military and civilian passenger burden on Pullman and railroads is heavy, leaving little room for peacetime comforts.
