Bronte city council approves a compromise rate schedule for General Telephone. Business lines rise to 12.50 a month, residences 6.00, two party lines 5.00, with extensions 1.75 for business and 1.25 for residents. Mayor Royce Lee says the compromise avoids a lengthy dispute.
Girl Scouts in Robert Lee plan a five day Summer Day Camp from May 26 to 30 for girls ages 8 to 15. Camp runs 8 a.m. to 2 30 p.m. at Fern Havins Park with no transport provided. Fees are 3 for registered Scouts and 3 25 for others. Contact camp director Mrs. B R Duncan at 453 5061. registration due by May 10.

The Post Office Department proposes higher rates to close a 1970 deficit of 1.2 billion dollars. Postmaster General Blount says increases are needed to avoid a future tax burden. First-class letters would move to 7 cents and postcards to 6 cents by July 1 1969, with second and third class changes phased in through 1970.
Lone Star Gas Company filed with the Texas Railroad Commission to raise the intracompany gate charge for residential commercial and distribution unaccounted-for gas from 35.4 to 44.8 cents per thousand cubic feet. After the commission sets the new rate town by town computations will be made and if earnings are inadequate local rate actions will be pursued.
Cheri Baker won blue in the 1969 Coke County 4-H Foods Show junior division for her Vegetable Casserole. The recipe uses butter crackers cheese and canned vegetables with mushroom soup baked until golden, serving about 14.
