Soil Stewardship Week will be celebrated locally May 11 18 led by Coke County Soil and Water Conservation District chair J W Service Sr The event theme Confronting The Issues highlights citizen responsibility in managing renewable resources The district will provide program materials to churches upon request and mirrors a national observance sponsored by about 3000 districts and state and national associations The booklet stresses confronting today’s resource issues and changing attitudes toward natural resources

Fourteen Coke County residents attended a regional soil conservation awards banquet in Fredericksburg. The Coke County Soil Conservation District won first place for its past year’s work, receiving 300 dollars. Attendees included district directors and spouses, W E Jacoby and Mrs Jacoby, Rex Brand, C E Arrott the Outstanding Coke County Conservationist, and families. The regional district group spans 50 districts from Central Texas to El Paso.

CRMWD Bid Opening Set For Three Pump Stations
Colorado River Municipal Water District directors plan a Tuesday bid opening in Big Spring for the three pump station constructions. Contracts for pumps and controls were awarded earlier. Dedicating Lake E V Spence and Robert Lee Dam is slated for June 14 with Cong Omar Burleson as speaker.
