Honor Students Named in 1974 Coke County Senior Class
Honor students of the 1974 Coke County senior class were announced by Principal James L. Gosson. Sanah Heaner is valedictorian with 97.712 average, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Russell Heaner. Diane Arrott is salutatorian with 95.050 average, daughter of Mrs. O. W. Minnick. Mrs. Minnick, 92, died April 25 at Gondson. funeral held last Saturday at Gordon. Seven children survive Mrs. Minnick, including J. R. Minnick of Bronte. Andy Eubanks is high boy with 87.313 average. The three honor students will receive special recognition at commencement. Local election news covers Coke County Democratic primaries, polling hours from 8 am to 7 pm, with multiple precincts and named election judges. several county races for commissioner and justice of the peace are noted along with unopposed candidates and a U.S. representative race.

Bronte High Sends Three to State Contests
Bronte High School will have three contestants at the UIL state events this week. Wayne Alexander and Janie RAughton head to golf with coach James M. Raughton, while Raunghton enters the spelling contest with coach Rhyce Pancher. Activities start Friday with early departures Thursday morning.

Jones Rites Held At Nolan Church
Funeral services for Robert Freelan Jones 61 of Nolan were held at Nolan Baptist Church. Burial followed at Slater’s Chapel Cemetery. Jones died Saturday at his home. Born June 20 1912 in Linton he married Minnie L Crum Jones in 1934 in Donn. He lived in Nolan 57 years, was a farmer and rancher. Survivors include his wife a daughter June Clark of Nodon a son John R Jones of Middletown Conn a sister-in-law Mrs R S Corumanki and brother-in-law Mrs B W Waldrop both of Robert Lee.

Band Rates I IT At Regional Meet
The Brionte Longham Band earned Division II in concert and Division I in sight reading at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in Abilene. Director Louis Thornton said the group did well and sought two I ratings. Thornton announced The Swingers will perform Friday at 5 00 am on KOTV and will join Ballinger Stage Band Festival next Tuesday against Class A schools with Robert Lee Altany Eldorado Grand Falls Iraan Roscoe among entrants. The Spring Concert is set for May 14 at 7 p.m.

Welcome Rain Brings Smiles for Flammers and Ranchers
Rain fell across the Bronte area early in the week with totals near 2 to 4 inches in various spots. Measurements from The Enterprise show A N and Joe Rawlings Southwest of town at 3.90 inches and other locals recording 2.2 to 3.0 inches. The soaking rain revived dry soil and boosted optimism for 1974 among farmers and ranchers.
