Texas Broiler Industry Sees Record Growth In 1972
Texas remained seventh in national broiler output in 1972 with 187 441 000 birds produced, up seven percent from 1971 but below 1970. Average price to producers rose yet costs for feed doubled, while nationwide 22 key states posted a five percent rise. Onion yields in the Rio Grande Valley exceed last year by about five percent though weather slowed spring harvests and extended the onion season into April. Weather continues delaying crops including cantaloupes, dark watermelons, and citrus harvest extending into June.
