Texas lawmakers finish 61st session budget plan set for special tax bill
Texas legislators wrap the 61st regular session with a $2.8 billion one year budget for 1970 and plan a special session to complete 1971 appropriations and a major tax bill. Lt Gov Barnes and Speaker Mutscher say the tax bill may be smaller if timing is delayed until next year. Governor Smith may veto the one year bill and call another session or schedule remaining work later.
