Dam on Big Oak Creek Proposed by UCRA in Austin Meeting
UCRA directors met with the Bureau of Reclamation and state agencies in Austin to speed the Colorado River dam study. A second dam on Oak Creek near Fort Chadbourne would supply Bronte Robert Lee and Sweetwater with municipal water and irrigate 3000 acres in Coke and Runnels counties. Two project alternatives include a large municipal and irrigation dam or a smaller municipal dam with 5000 acres of irrigation. L T Youngblood said the board will review feasibility and financing, with water for 40000 acres downstream in the larger plan and 35000 acre feet impounded for Oak Creek. Attendees included Youngblood Allen Ivey Wendland Lewis and others.
