Mr and Mrs J I Hambright of Norton spent Saturday in Bronte returning from Roscoe where they had visited Mr and Mrs W L Thayley They described the visit as very pleasant.

Houston, July 15 The United War Chest of Texas completed plans for the first allocation of funds to the national war drive. The Texas contribution totals five billion dollars, with committees organized to raise and distribute the amount to support Allied efforts and domestic defense.
George A. Butler of Houston heads a new Texas unified war appeals drive aiming to raise about 5 million dollars as Texas share of the National War Fund. The state group organized in Dallas on July 7 with Butler as president and campaign chairman, Gov. Coke Stevenson as honorary chairman, Roy Farmer as treasurer, and Wayland T. Towner as secretary and general manager. Twenty one vice presidents will be named. The plan relies on local leadership for each community and county to support front line and home front aid through agencies approved by President Roosevelt’s War Relief Control Board, including USO, Belgian and British relief, and other international funds.
Sgt. Scott and his bride, sweethearts since before the war, wed in a home courtship and plan to reunite after a Dallas visit. He serves in the air hospital corps in Tallahassee while Mrs. Scott works for North American Aircraft. Friends in Blackwell Bronte and beyond extend best wishes.
